Corona news flash| Municipal taxation
In light of the Corona pandemic, many businesses are compelled to scale back their operations, bar employees and customers from their places of business and, in many instances, cease their commercial activities completely and shut down their businesses. This situation may affect business owners’ liability for municipal taxes in the coming period.
In order to assist businesses with their cash-flow, the Ministry of the Interior has announced that it is allowing municipalities to postpone payment of municipal taxes with taxes for March-April, possibly due only on May 1, 2020.
However, the Ministry of the Interior has also instructed municipalities not to give discounts or exemptions from taxes due to the Corona crisis, other than pursuant to specific authority granted by law.
In recent days, some municipalities have indeed announced certain such measures.
